About Us - NWITSC

Our Story

Nepalese Women in Tech for Social Change (NWITSC) is a non-profitable organization established in 2024 to advance access to digital platforms for marginalized women and girls from indigenous, Dalit, and Muslim communities.

We believe that promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls are essential for achieving human rights and sustainable development goals. Enhancing access to digital technology for all women and girls not only stimulates economic growth but also enhances health, education, and overall well-being, potentially lifting millions out of poverty.

NWITSC has been actively seeking and involving organizations which are working on behalf of marginalized women for empowerment through digitalization.

The Digital Gender Divide

As digital technology advances rapidly, revolutionizing access to information, goods, and services, it also exposes significant gender disparities in access.

In Nepal, there is a noticeable gender disparity between men and women in accessing and utilizing digital technology, hindering women's empowerment, impeding economic growth, and posing risks of instability within communities.

Women are less likely than men to choose technical careers. The societal norms and expectations often steer girls towards non-technical interests and careers while encouraging boys to pursue technical fields. There are stereotypes about gender abilities and preferences leading to biases in education and the type of responsibility. Accordingly, there's a lack of encouragement and mentorship for girls to choose the field of their interest.
